Four teens aged between 13 and 15 who were on bail have been arrested, while other alleged offenders are still on the run, after an alleged attempted car-jacking, multiple burglaries, and the theft of scooters in Darwin overnight, NT Police said.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries said in a statement that between midnight and 4am, police received multiple reports of an unspecified amount of break-ins at business across the northern suburbs as well as an attempted car-jacking on Wood Street in Darwin city.
Police allege the attempted car-jacking victim was parked and was approached by two offenders who allegedly assaulted the victim, and threatened them with an ‘edged weapon’ before leaving.
There was no details given about the alleged business break-ins and the alleged scooter thefts, nor did police say if the crimes were all allegedly committed by the same people.
Snr Sgt Humphries said a team from Strike Force Trident and the dog unit were deployed, and the four alleged offenders were identified through CCTV footage, and arrested at northern suburbs homes at unspecified times. He said they were all already on bail and subject to electronic monitoring.
He said police were sill looking to identify additional offenders.
“This is a great example of efficient teamwork between Strike Force Trident and the dog operations unit. Their ability to identify and apprehend the offenders within two hours of responding demonstrates their dedication and effectiveness,” Snr Sgt Humphries said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crimes to call them on 131 444, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
