Casino and gaming executive Sean Knights has been appointed general manager of Mindil Beach Casino and Resort, having recently left his previously job as executive general manager at Crown Sydney.
Mr Knights, subject to regulatory approval, will lead 500 casino and resort employees at the Mindil Beach Casino, the company said.
Owner and operator Delaware North took over the former Sky City casino in 2019.
Delaware North managing director Gary Brown said Mr Knight’s track record of outstanding casino management appointments has made him the best choice for the top job in Darwin, replacing Avril Baynes.
“Sean has been appointed as the new general manager based on his impressive track record, leadership, experience and demonstrated ability to effectively manage large teams and deliver strong outcomes for companies, customers and communities,” Mr Brown said in a statement.
“Under Sean’s leadership, Delaware North looks forward to Mindil Beach Casino Resort continuing to be the Northern Territory’s ultimate entertainment destination.”
Mr Knights graduated from the University of Nevada’s leadership graduate program and has 20 years of hospitality and gaming experience in local and international casinos. He also held casino gaming licenses in Singapore.
“I’m thrilled to be appointed to lead the team in what is an iconic Northern Territory and Australian tourism business,” Mr Knight said.
“I am keen to ensure that Mindil Beach Casino Resort continues to be a respected local business with world-class facilities which is a major contributor to the Northern Territory economy as an important local employer.”
Mr Knights’ career in the gaming industry includes roles such as executive general manager of gaming at Crown’s Sydney casino, managing director for Jupiters Townsville casino (The Ville), executive general manager for table games at Crown Melbourne casino, and as senior vice president Singapore for Resorts World Sentosa casino resort.
He has also worked in leadership roles at the Treasury Brisbane casino, The Star Sydney, and the Burswood Entertainment Complex (Crown Perth).
