Five-time winner Pee Wee’s again snags this year’s top Gold Plate Award

Pee Wee’s at the Point has again been found by Gold Plate judges to be delivering the best quality food and service in the Territory, winning Restaurant of the Year at the Hospitality NT-Australian Liquor Marketers Gold Plate Awards.

Located in a world-class location at the East Point Nature Reserve, Pee Wee’s, now a five-time winner of the best restaurant category, offers authentic local cuisine and an award-winning wine list in a stunning outdoor setting.

Pee Wee’s owners Lily and Simon Mathews took over the restaurant in 2002. With a strong background in hospitality, their vision for the restaurant was to provide the best food and service in a world-class location. Now in its 21st year of service, Pee Wee’s has established itself as an iconic dining experience in the Northern Territory.

More than 500 guests attended the biggest Gold Plate event in the award’s 17-year history. There were 330 nominations received from 70 hospitality businesses across the Territory.

“You certainly never became blasé about winning Gold Plates but this is probably the most satisfying because of the difficulties we’ve faced for the past two or three years,” Mr Mathews said.

“This year, it was a case of heads down, bums up and just pushing through as many customers as we could with the staff we had.”

NT Hospitality represents NT hospitality business, including pubs, small bars, accommodation hotels, clubs, restaurants, cafes, wayside inns, breweries, distilleries, caravan parks and casinos among others.

Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said the industry’s people and venues continue to reach new heights in Territory dining and hospitality.

“Pee Wee’s at the Point continues to showcase the very best of the NT’s dining scene,” he said. “Simon, Lily and their team have maintained Pee Wee’s very high standards despite the workforce challenges plaguing our industry.”
