Two groups of armed teens as young as 13, allegedly stole a taxi and two scooters across the Northern Suburbs over the weekend, NT Police said.

Three males reportedly armed with a hammer approached the driver of a scooter on Mawalan Court in Ludmilla around 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon, where they allegedly threatened the driver before all three took the scooter and began driving around the Northern Suburbs.

Police said two of the teens were dropped off in Karama, before the third youth later collected two other teens from an address in Ludmilla before continuing to drive around the suburbs.

Police used CCTV to monitor the scooter and three males, all aged 13. They were arrested without incident and have been charged with multiple offences and are expected to appear in court today.

The second incident occurred around 12:30am this morning, when police received reports that another group of armed teens had stolen a scooter from a Nakara home before then attempting to steal other vehicles in Coconut Grove.

Police said the group of two 13-year-olds and a 16-year-old later successfully stole a taxi from Casuarina, although police did not say where they drove the car.

“In each incident the youths were allegedly armed with edged weapons,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said in a statement.

The stolen taxi and scooter were later recovered with the three males arrested with charges expected to be laid later today.

“Detectives from Strike Force Trident have carriage of all incidents and are urging anyone with information, particularly if you have dash-cam or mobile phone footage of scooters driving dangerously around the northern suburbs, to make contact on 131 444,” Snr Sgt Motter-Barnard said.
