A fire engulfed a building on Cavenagh St in Darwin city on Sunday morning, causing “extensive damage” NT Police have said.

Territory Duty Superintendent Meghan Funnell said in a statement that the NT Fire Service were called to the fire about 6.30am on Sunday, and the cause of the fire was still be investigated.

All services responded, including fire units from Darwin and Marrara fire stations, and she said firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze in the unoccupied building, which has been extensively damaged.

“Roads in the immediate vicinity were closed while crews responded to the fire, which appears to have originated in a business on the first floor of a two-storey building,” she said.

The NT News reported that the fire was in the Chin Arcade near the corner of Knuckey St.
