A woman was allegedly assaulted in an attempt to steal her handbag by a group of youths while walking in Karama, NT Police said, while another incident involved a group of “at least four youth intruders” breaking into a Nightcliff business and stealing “a large quantity of alcohol”.
Police said the first incident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday night at the corner of Livistona Road and Calytrix Road in Karama where a 37-year-old was walking when she was attacked by three females and a male who attempted to steal her handbag.
Police said the woman was assaulted but the offenders ran from the scene “when confronted”.
It was unclear who confronted them.
Police said the 37-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and did not need to be hospitalised.
The other incident occurred just before 3am when four youths broke into a business on Dick Ward Drive in Nightcliff.
“It is alleged that the group forcibly entered the premises, physically overcoming a roller shutter door, security glass and metal grating before stealing a large quantity of alcohol,” police said in a statement.
“The offenders fled the scene prior to police attendance.”
A 16-year-old female was located by police nearby with alcohol. She was arrested and police said she will now be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Investigations are continuing into both incidents. Police are asking anyone with information on either incident to contact them on 131 444 or through Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000.
