A man who was extradited from Victoria has faced Alice Springs Local Court today on a charge of murder over the death of Yiel Deng Gatluak outside the town on New Year’s Day, it has been reported.

Koang Wuordol, 22, faced the Alice Springs Local Court before Judge Carly Ingles on Tuesday charged with the murder of 19-year-old Mr Gatluak, and was remanded in custody to appear in court again on March 7, the NT News reported.

While Guandong Lual Gatl Guandong, 22, faced Alice Springs Local Court on Monday, the paper reported, on the charge of aiding and abetting the alleged murder, which was an upgrade of the original charge of being being an accessory to the murder after the fact.

Mr Guandong did not apply for bail and his next court appearance is set for March 7.

On Monday NT Police also said a 17-year-old boy had also been charged with being being an accessory to the murder after the fact. He also appeared in court and was remanded in custody with his next appearance on February 29, but the NT News reported he could not be named for legal reasons.

NT Police had said Mr Gatluak’s badly injured body was found by a female driver around 12:30pm on Undoolya Rd, 10km east of Alice Springs on New Year’s Day.

A fourth suspect, a 20-year-old man, had been released while police investigated further.

On January 4 police impounded a 2017 black Ford Ranger Wildtrak – NT registration CE69 DM – in connection with Mr Gatluak’s death, which the agency said had been driven around Alice Springs from early morning until the early afternoon on January 1.

Police, however, said that the owner did not have the ute at the time of the alleged murder.
