Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has outraged environmental groups with a decision that will permit clearing operations at Lee Point for Defence Housing Australia’s development despite threats posed to the endangered Gouldian Finch habitat.

Environmental Justice Australia, which had earlier written to the Minister appealing for the stoppage of the land clearing, said Gouldian finches are rare, with a population of just 2,500.
