UPDATED: The cause of death of a 24-year-old Yuendumu man who died while being arrested by NT Police officers on Tuesday afternoon at an Alice Springs supermarket is still unknown following an initial autopsy, police said Wednesday afternoon, while political leaders have called for the community to remain calm as the investigation continues.

Assistant Commissioner Travis Wurst said on Wednesday that the deceased man has been identified and had been living in Alice Springs for years, but did not confirm other details about the man’s health and mental state, while the grandfather of the man said in a statement that the community was “devastated” over the death and wanted “answers and justice”.
