A man and a woman who police believe were on ice, allegedly broke into a house while four children were at home during the day, and stole three shotguns before one of the pair threatened a male resident with a knife, NT Police said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said in a statement that about 10:30am Monday a 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman broke into a Jingili house with the four children at home.

He said the pair allegedly stole a number of items including jewellery and three shotguns before the male resident returned home and confronted the offenders.

One of the pair allegedly threatened the man with a knife before they drove off in a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Snr Sgt Motter-Barnard said that after the male resident called police Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit members began tracking the Land Cruiser, and it was seen driving erratically through Jingili and Ludmilla, before it collided with a parked vehicle on Bremer St, Ludmilla, and drove into a nearby drain.
Both offenders were arrested and Snr Sgt Motter-Barnard said they were both believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine, with the man taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment while the woman was remanded in custody.

The woman will appear in Darwin Local today to face thee counts of damage to property, and one count each of aggravated burglary of a dwelling, aggravated robbery, theft, driving in a dangerous manner, failure to report a crash, driving with a prohibited drug in the body, driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed, possession/use of a firearm while unlicensed, possessing ammunition without a licence, possessing plates calculated to deceive, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, and not stopping after a crash.

The man remains under police guard at Royal Darwin Hospital and Snr Sgt Motter-Barnard said he is expected to be charged with aggravated burglary of a dwelling, aggravated robbery, damage to property, theft, possession/use of a firearm while unlicensed, possessing ammunition without a licence, and breach of bail.

“This was a confronting incident for the family involved and thankfully no one was injured,” Snr Sgt Motter-Barnard said.

“The quick thinking resident who immediately contacted police on 000 allowed us to begin tracking the vehicle without delay and helped facilitate a quick arrest.”
