A 47-year-old woman who was left at the hospital by her partner after he allegedly stabbed her twice in the chest and told healthcare workers she was feeling “unwell” has died as a result of her wounds 10 days after the incident, with her 39-year-old partner now facing charges, NT Police said.

Police said in a statement Monday that the woman, who was assaulted on September 18, had died in Royal Darwin Hospital earlier on September 28.

The male has now been charged with Acts Intended to Cause Serious Harm, while police said they were “currently liaising with the [Director] of Public Prosecutions”.

On September 19, the NT Police received a report from medical staff at the Palmerston Regional Hospital advising that at around 8pm on Friday, September 18, a man had brought his female partner to the hospital claiming “she was unwell” and then fleeing the scene.

Medical staff assessed the woman and found she had two stab wounds to her chest.

The victim was transferred to RDH in a critical condition, where she died on Monday, September 28.

The 39-year-old male was later arrested at a Palmerston address around the time of the reported incident and remains in custody, police said.

He will appear in court on October 28.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
