Four people are in custody and others remain on the run following a “large disturbance” in Darwin’s party precinct on Sunday evening, allegedly involving a man armed with a knife that resulted in frantic calls to emergency services, NT Police said.

NT emergency services were inundated with calls around 8pm Sunday evening after chaotic scenes unfolded in Mitchell Street of a massive fight with at least one man allegedly armed with a knife.

Police said in a statement late last evening that four men had been arrested in connection to the disturbance, but that others remain outstanding.

“Darwin and Casuarina general duties members attended, and with assistance from CCTV operators were able to track offenders as they fled through the city,” said Snr Sgt Joshua Cunningham.

“Four men were arrested and are expected to be charged tonight.

“Police also expect to make further arrests.

“This disgusting and appalling behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstance and we will endeavour to apprehend and charge all outstanding participants.”

The NT Police media unit did not provide any further details, including if anyone had been injured in the melee or what started it.
