Darwin to host national swimming championship this Saturday

Swimmers from across regional Australia will be converging in Darwin this weekend for the 2022 Country Swimming Championship from October 1 to 4, to be held at the internationally-approved Parap Swimming Pool.

The Championships will see two sessions daily, with competitive racing beginning at 9am and 5pm with warm-ups starting at 8 am and 4 pm respectively.

Swimming Northern Territory will be hosting the first ever 2022 Country Swimming Championships.

Swimming NT executive officer Rob West said the competition would showcase the best swimmers from across the country in Darwin.

“We are looking forward to viewing some of the Country’s most talented swimmers from regional Australia who will be competing in the Northern Territory,” he said. “We expect a large number of competitors to join us at this great time of year.”

The competition will be held together with the Junior State Age Challenge that will see some of the best young swimmers from regional Australia competing at the venue.

Large numbers of participants and their supporters are anticipated to flock to the Top End for the event boosting the local hospitality sector.

The Country Championships are supported by the NT Government through the NT Major Events Company.
