    John Zvimba, a Zimbabwean national working in the engineering department at Royal Darwin Hospital, and accomplice Walter Wilton were jailed for defrauding the hospital of nearly $150,000. They created a scheme involving 36 phony work orders for electrical work that was never performed.

    Lawyer turned conman Christian Okoh, 29, sentenced to home detention for money laundering after snitching on co-offender brothers.     Christian Okohagreed to give evidence against his gambling addict brother, Joseph Okoh, 32, who was the principal offender and who was in mid-September sentenced to five years and four months jail, with a two year and eight month non-parole period.
    The youngest of the three brothers, Emmanuel Okoh, 26, pleaded guilty earlier this year to dealing in the proceeds of crime and is serving three years jail with an 18 month non-parole period.

    The Fair Work Ombudsman has secured more than $100,000 in penalties and back-pay orders in court against the operators of a supermarket in Darwin for breaches affecting a migrant worker.
    The Federal Circuit and Family Court has imposed a $39,960 penalty against Om Shiva Foods Pty Ltd, trading as Wulagi Supermarket, and a $7,992 penalty against the company’s sole director Vinay Madasu

    The Fair Work Ombudsman has voiced concerns about “significant non-compliance” with wage laws by Top End restaurants, cafes and takeaway businesses, with close to $400,000 recovered in a recent crackdown.
    More than 30 businesses audited in 48 surprise inspections were found to be not paying penalty rates, casual loadings, overtime and excessive unpaid trials – with 479 local workers underpaid.
