  1. Battery systems of this size only provide enough power to hold the network up for the time it takes to start up another generator. There must be surplus generation to charge the battery, which will be done by gas turbine. The other function is to stabilise the grid from fluctuating solar inputs. It is the only way to allow large solar farms to be brought online. Not sure if anyone has worked out the loss of carbon capture when we clear vast areas for solar panels.
