Darwin gets giant Ferris Wheel at the wharf for dry season

The Skyline Ferris Wheel will make its Darwin debut this dry season offering Territorians a 35-metre-high observation wheel to enjoy 360-degree views over Darwin and surrounds.

The NT Government has approved Skyline Attractions a license to operate the “Wheel on the Wharf – WOW!” at Stokes Hill Wharf beginning June 11th until October 2021.

But according to the company’s website they are open until August 29, 2021.

It will be located in the carpark adjacent to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Darwin Tourist Facility and the government says it will take up approximately 25 carparks at the wharf.

“It makes sense that the Ferris wheel is positioned on the Wharf, providing the best views over Darwin Harbour and back towards the city,” Darwin Waterfront General Manager Sam Burke said.

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler ordered a temporary planning exemption to allow the Darwin Waterfront to set up the Ferris Wheel at the wharf.

The exemption means up to 25 carparks at the wharf will be utilised until early October to house the new dry season attraction.

Each ride is set for ten minutes with up to six people fit in each gondola.

There will still be three-hour reduced car parking available at Stokes Hill Wharf along with the Free Waterfront 21-seater Shuttle.

“Our team is very excited to bring the Skyline Ferris wheel to Darwin this dry season. Darwin is a great destination and with interstate tourism going so well, we thought why not give it a try!,” Skyline Attractions Business Manager Jane Jones said.

“We locate our wheels in several different locations throughout Australia each year including Melbourne and Adelaide, we need to head to the warmer states during winter to ensure the business is sustainable year-round, so Darwin is a great option for us over the coming months.”

The wheel will be open daily from 10am to 9:30pm but subject to weather conditions.

Tickets may be purchased onsite at the ticket box or online.

Bookings are available via Skyline Attractions’ website: https://www.skylineattractions.com.au/darwin
