Like the Darwin Waterfront, this project is another vehicle to misappropriate public funds.
As a contract has been signed by both parties, using commercial in confidence to stop the public from knowing all costing details smells entirely of corruption.
As the partner to the council and rate payers is a property developer does his company decide what the actual costs to construct the building will be.¹
A open tender process would deliver the most cost effective price for the different works needed to construct this development.
Electrical works that theoreticaly could be completed for 2 million are 2.5 million.
1/2 million dollars between friends can persuade many to go along with decisions.
As for the current alderman except Amy Une I haven’t seen or heard any objections or willingness to make sure rate payers are protected .
With council elections around the corner take a moment to think who wants re election and maybe someone else should be given a chance.
I have heard the same rumour from many different people that a gift of 2 appartments can get you through the door.
This City of Darwin Election,i encourage Territorians to vote out every complacent Aldermen that voted for this sweet sweet deal, meaning vote them all out except for Amye Une!

Buildings of this magnitude and cost demand a very tight review? Public/ community acceptance? It is ‘our’ monetary commitment. Not for those who may seek bronze plates. Setting aside issues of site, historical location, and edging on what may be acknowledged as lacking in full detail, a means of mis-informing public / community comprehension. A very real concern . . . is of the basic design choice lacking “future” needs. As an example: Deletion of Underground Parking. Together, with Climate “THREAT”. A formidable concern? Heat and weather constructional security has never been more prioritized across the Globe? Than right here in our N.T. ‘Our’ Darwin and surrounds are wide-open to cyclonic / coast / population challenges. Plus military. And limited, virtual connection with and to southern populations. Bluntly . . . You do not design, build, for the ‘Day’. But for a future! Every CBD ‘build of substance’; owned and financed by ratepayers . . . must include Underground Parking. As the city and population grows.
