Natural Territory founder and owner Anita Synnott won gold in the wellness products category, silver in the rural and remote business excellence category, and bronze in the beauty business of the year category at the AusMumpreneur awards held in Sydney on August 24.
While Amy Milford from the Darwin Family Life website won bronze in the people’s choice community category.
The AusMumpreneur Awards are presented by the Women’s Business School, which said it created them to recognise mothers succeeding in business in areas such as product development, customer service, and digital innovation, and were designed to recognise the women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Ms Synnott, who described herself as married with two adult children, said she had been a passionate educator for the past 25 years.
“I love coming alongside people to coach them, support them, and equip them for their future,” she said.
“I am extremely blessed to have a very supportive family, and group of friends who have encouraged me all the way to become what I am today.
“I am extremely hard-working, and thrive on a challenge. This has allowed me to refine my problem-solving skills and has ultimately set our business up for success.”
She said Natural Territory used as many Australian native ingredients as possible, with more than 70 products, including skincare, hair and body care, an inner health range, and aromatherapy.
“I’ve had the privilege of having some incredible mentors in the past few years, who have stretched us to really think about sustainability, impact on our community, and the way that we educate people around body, image and skincare,” she said
“It is through some of these mentorships and our ability to embrace challenges that our business has grown phenomenally.
“It can be challenging to be a successful businesswoman whilst raising a family, and working full-time. Do your research, find your passion and back yourself”.
Ms Miford, said she grew up in the Territory, and as a solo mum started her business Darwin Family Life, partly inspired by her kids: a four-year-old, a seven-year-old, 10-year-old twins, and a 12-year-old.
“Darwin Family Life has become a conduit between Darwin families and local business. Plus providing key information such as blogs about school holidays and more,” she said.
“I was excited to be recognised in this category because the NT community and beyond had to vote for me.
“I feel like I have brought home the trophy for the NT again. It was so special to win this award last year as well. It is so important to have the recognition for the endless hours and dedication I have put in over the many years.
”Dream big. You never know where a little idea may take you. I never dreamed I would be where I am today, six years ago when I started Darwin Family Life.
“You don’t want to look back in five or 10 years and think ‘what if’.”
Ms MIlford said she found a need in the community for bringing together information for families and connecting everyone, adding her website had become the go-to place for families moving to Darwin, and existing ones to find out about school holidays events, other blogs and more.
“The essence of Darwin Family Life is the community connection and big online community that has formed,” she said.
“It can be challenging to be a successful businesswoman whilst raising a family.”
