The Albanese Government needs to take decisive action against the troubled North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency by cutting funding and sacking its entire board, Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price says, following a letter to the board citing a lack of confidence that has been ignored by the agency.
The letter was sent to the NAAJA board by the federal and Territory Attorneys-General and the National Indigenous Australians Agency on August 1, advising the board that the bodies had lost confidence in its ability to act in NAAJA’s best interests and sought action on long-standing concerns around the agency’s poor governance and financial issues.
So non-aboriginal Tax Paying Australians must pay for a lawyer to represent them yet the non-employed aboriginal (tax payer funded) welfare recipients get tax payer funded legal assistance and we are saddened by NAAJA’s dysfunction..
Many people got very rich!
To be fair,
indigenous people do need a indigenous focused legal service!! I think a bare bones, no board in the way, run by 1 CEO service would be a great start!
I cannot imagine the impact on the court system and the clients this is having right now!
