  1. A modern library includes a reception, toilets, and a very small computer and printing room; a sea container would comfortably fit it.The council office should be central, say Rapid Creek, as the NLC offices should be in Katherine, not Berrimah.

  2. Local Government – ‘The last refuge of the incompetent’! Unfortunately, when You have a Mayor like Con, the damage can be serious and long-lasting, both to the ratepayers and to the iconic and special Darwin city urban design. Good on Andrew Liveris a too architect, from an old Darwin family, calling this out!

    • The irony of Kon (who according to Wikipedia has no commercial building experience) calling out Liveris, a property developer who knows what commercial buildings cost only exposes and strengthens the allegations that there has been a ‘sweetheart’ deal. Who then benefits?

If Kon was genuinely acting in the best interests of the community he allegedly represents and is supposed to get the best bang for bucks he would engage in Mr. Liveris to put in an expression of interest in building the Civic Centre. Rather Kon attacked him.

      I smell a rat…

  3. Sorry, ‘The last refuge of the incompetent’! should read the first refuge as many use local government to go to higher places and of the current lot of pollies, Territory and Canberra, a number could be called incompetent.

  4. Preposterous! Who will be in charge of this? Kon will not cede authority to anyone. His is the ultimate authority – just review DCC minutes of meetings past. Another high rise? DCC should not be involved in private enterprise – never – ever. The rate payers will be slugged for someone elses ego trip. The by-laws can be adjusted/changed and this is what Kon does. DCC does not need to be located where it is – it would be better placed and better accessible in the suburbs where traffic congestion is less. Also, councils usually get grants from governments and this will screw up grant applications. As a Darwin rate payer I am totally against this. If Kon is a true peoples mayor, he should be impartial which he is not. This will end up in a long drawn-out court case – funded not by Kon, but by the DCC and be a big expensive mess. Councils do not – should not – be involved in private enterprise. Please – everyone – sign the petition to make a court case against this proposal stronger. It is time Kon – quit before you are sacked.

  5. I was happy to donate $ for such a petition; however, mine was for a one-off donation; not the same amount per month ad infinitum. This is a criminal con. If there is a representative of “Change” in the NT, I would certainly appreciate this person’s identity; anonymously of course. tonyryan43@gmail.com

    • Hi Tony
      We set up the petition
      We are not from “Change.Org”
The site is a bit tricky – people do not need to donate $ (to the site) – there is the option to just forward the petition to somebody instead
(which is what we would prefer people do)

      All the Best

    • Tony no disrespect you cant call something a criminal kon if you just click on every option on a web site!

  6. “Most concerningly, there has been no community consultation…”, this is exactly how the council went about the supposed Cyclone Tracy Monument that the mayor has said from the beginning was not a monument or memorial for Cyclone Tracy. Zero public consultation and zero consideration for the survivors of Cyclone Tracy.

The CoD goes to enormous lengths to ensure the public has zero transparency regarding process of discussing and selection of a multi-million dollar project. Watch this space.

I can tell you from first hand experience that commercial rates are in the vicinity of $4-5000 per square metre. I wonder if there will be some kick backs similar to to that of the evidence tendered in Darwin during the Cole Royal Commission in 2003.

ICAC is useless, it is now up to the Finocchiarro Government to commence a full independent forensic investigation of the City of Darwin, urgently.

This mayor must be voted out in August.
