What an enormous cost for the report that we all knew she would write. Somehow, the good guys are the bads guys. Plllease, this young man was a vicious thug, but all the focus seems to be on racism. What nonsense.
The thing that got me was that the Chief Justice and the Chief magistrate did not step in.
Not that anyone could have predicted the Scissor toting Walker/Gun toting Rolfe incident but imagine if $7.3 million of expenditure took place in the bombing range of Yuendumu!
Would it have helped the outcomes of the fabulous people who live their?
So, who got rich? Set for the rest of her life. A long running soap with a predicable outcome. We deserve better.
$7million just to say there was racism. The Yuendumu community have put the deceased man in a pedestal now, worshipping him and turning the house where the tragic incident occurred (not where he died) into a tribute to him as if he was a saint. I understand their grief and loss at losing him but they had been terrorised by his violence and were scared of him. If he had not tried to stab the officer, he would still be alive and $7m wouldn’t have been wasted on this inquest and goodness knows how much on the court case and maybe that money could have been put into a community program to help prevent their young mothers from consuming alcohol whilst pregnant resulting in babies with FASD who go onto to struggle in life and have the worst outcomes. That young man was not heading down a good path due to neglect by his mother and then the community.
This whole issue would put home and away, blue hills and dad and dave to shame in total.
What a huge waste of resources that schools, roads, health could have well done with.
Plenty of people milking the system is all that could be said, to hell with doing anything of value for the Territory.
A few quick points:
1. It’s quite shocking to read how many people are so blasé and apathetic to racism generally. Especially so when it’s the NT Police Force’s officers.
In our experience, it’s usually if not always, the people with the least amount of melanin in their skin that call racism “nonsense”.
2. If you want to talk about waste of money/resources then we look forward to hearing your opinion on why there doesn’t seem to be any urgency around the $60 Million IEPS fraud.
3. Check out the NT Budget mismanagement year after year. We might take the argument more seriously if you had something to say about the BILLIONS of dollars in debt we already are, not to mention the CLP’s projected increase of another $3 BILLION.
$7 Million will be money well spent if it helps us clean up the NT Police once and for all.
