The ongoing coronial inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker will not proceed next week as scheduled after Coroner Elisabeth Armitage ordered the sittings be vacated to provide her more time to consider Zach Rolfe’s application calling on her to recuse herself for “apprehended bias”.
Ms Armitage was expected to make a decision this week ahead of Monday’s sitting date but a Courts spokesman said on Wednesday that she needs more time and has suspended the inquest indefinitely.
This would be a world record for stretching out a two day inquest.
The whole process has been suspect from the minute Chalker announced that the truth would come out in the inquest and illegally obtained private phone messages were handed to the coroner by police.
Isn’t it illegal to make threats of violence? Apparently not if face-painting is on offer.
