Darwin ship lift project now expected to cost at least $820m, committee finds
The cost of Darwin’s long-delayed ship lift has surged to at least $820 million, a parliamentary committee has found, which will see taxpayers cover the costs for Paspaley Pearls Group to operate, as per an agreement signed in 2021.

Lawyers who indicate they represent Darwin Council, Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis, and council staff have threatened to sue Cyclone Tracy survivor Antony Bullock for defamation if he publishes a book about his investigation into the selection of a sculpture commemorating the cyclone’s 50th anniversary.
