Police Commissioner Michael Murphy has visited the troubled remote community of Peppimenarti where residents have lodged a human rights complaint about inadequate policing while being terrorised by a gang known as the Jovi Boys in a situation that has been labelled a “national disgrace”.
Mr Murphy flew to Peppimenarti on Tuesday with the Territory Response Group, the NT News state media reported, quoting an unnamed police spokesperson saying the TRG, crime detectives and officers for surrounding areas, had been sent to help “facilitate calm and to provide respite” to community members.
We need mandatory sentencing, if the police round the jovi boys up the judges will only hit them with a feather duster. Minimum mandatory sentencing for all whether your white, black, yellow, gay. Or anything else. Many have had a hard upbringing and don’t convert to crime. No excuses.
