  1. We “might” have the energy, but we don’t have the infrastructure.

Those with very short memories have forgotten that floods caused the population to run around to find bottled water, we have above ground power lines and subject to outages from even a light storm.

So are we selling opportunities for occasionally connected data centres?

What network infrastructure do we have that suits wholesale network traffic, what analysis has this government done to assess the feasibility of what they want to offer? Whats the return on any investment to the people of the Northern Territory.

AI has a high risk of bursting its bubble (if in fact a bubble exists) what is the financial risk should it fail?

Does Australia have the talent and expertise to assess and protect the northern territory?

    • Yep, just like the space rocket adventures in Nhulunbuy. Thought bubbles without clear research.

  2. Come off it, CLP!! We don’t want or need an AI Data centre in the Northern Territory!! This should be the last straw for you mob!
Jacana already can’t manage electricity properly. And our PRECIOUS water shouldn’t be used to enrich billionaires, who don’t give a flying f*** about the people living in the NT, or the environment they propose to destroy. Hey hey ho ho the CLP has got to go!!

  3. Absolutely in agreement with rjnj98….we inhabit a dry desert territory and while we have adequate water here in the Top End during MOST wet seasons there are many wet seasons we are not similarly blessed. The last thing the people of the NT or indeed Australia, needs is ravenous greedy international Bill Gates types to descend on us and steal our water. and electricity.
The state of the utterly corrupt NT administration could be readily hijacked by such people by simply waving dollars at the NT Govt and making extravagant claims of employment.

We have had incidents in the past where aquifers were drained, farmers were financially affected, stock died and the NT Govt wants to bring this here?
The US experience of disastrous water theft, of entire towns of tens of thousands of people, being without electricity and water (most recent in Las Vegas) because of the ravenous greedy appetite, for never ending wealth by people that already have Too Much…but it never seems to be enough.

    • Absolutely in agreement with NTPaul.

These data centres are a catastrophe in the making. And you’re right about waving cash in front of the CLP – there’s no foresight… it’s gimme gimme gimme. A greedy bunch of uneducated cucks. And I’m entitled to my opinion.

  4. Short sighted government only seeking $$ without proper assessment. It would be disastrous for the NT to dabble in the AI data centre sector. We have hardly any water in the top end for over 6 months of the year! We struggle to pay out what is needed to water our damn gardens so we don’t live in a dust bowl during the dry season! Rethink CLP, we are not interested. Find something better.
