The Finocchiaro Government has pledged an “extra” $1 million in funding for Legal Aid NT, a day after a homeless man charged with aggravated robbery was reportedly granted bail due to confusion around his trial following Legal Aid cutting his defence funding.
Legal Aid NT announced earlier this month it would stop accepting new adult clients, cut all remote court services and withdraw from all adult hearings and trials as of January 1, due to funding and resource pressures.
Maybe free Legal Aid should be scaled back anyway!
Absolute losers in the community with rap sheets that are measured in pages should not be draining the public purse anymore than they already are!
