The Finocchiaro CLP Government has committed an additional $250,000 to Neighbourhood Watch NT to hire two people to deliver more self-defence training sessions to Territorians to help them “protect themselves and their properties”, which has raised concerns from critics of the potential to increase vigilantism across the Territory.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said the new funding will increase the organisation’s capacity to deliver more “targeted community engagement initiatives and public awareness campaigns to drive down opportunistic crime”.
In relation to the additional $250,000 of tax payer dollars to Neighbourhood Watch NT, who are the two people that will be hired to deliver the “more self-defence training sessions to Territorians?”
