The Finocchiaro CLP Government’s pick to run the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority went to university with the Chief Minister’s husband and remains close friends with him, the NT Independent can reveal, with the appointment made amid sweeping changes to the Sacred Sites Act and the government’s move to push through the proposed Darwin Waterfront hotel project despite traditional owners’ objections.
New AAPA interim chief executive Robert Pocock was appointed by the CLP on August 30, but no mention was made publicly about his friendship with Lia Finocchiaro’s husband Sam Burke, with records showing both men attended Charles Darwin University and Australian National University together over four years, where they received their law degrees and were admitted to the NT Bar on the same day in October 2009. Sources confirmed the men remain close and described Mr Pocock as Mr Burke’s “best mate”.

It is clear the Chief Minister and her friends on the fifth floor have accepted the upcoming decimation in 2028 and have nothing to lose.

Time for the Self-Government Act to be rescinded, and the jurisdiction is handed back to the Commonwealth. That being until the NT is really ready to lead with honesty, integrity and transparency.
