Typical naive comments by the greens member. Get out of Darwin and into a pub where there is mainly Aboriginal patrons. Most pubs out of town have prices that were never affected by MUP. That hasn’t stopped anyone buying grog though.
Kat is a true Green, with no knowledge of business. The floor price is pocketed by businesses, not the government, and adds to the booze baron’s profits and is a massive incentive to sell more booze. She probably believes Aboriginals live in poverty, and the tooth fairy gives them $300 bottles of rum.
Seriously Nightcliff, I understand that the CLP option was ridiculous but the independent was, at least, educated, but you chose ‘Heavily Tattooed Kat’. Floor price has increased theft and has been a cost imposition on the vast majority of individuals. All this without any evidence of reduced (and, in fact,) increased (according to statistics) DV, Crime, Anti-Social Behaviour etc.. Maybe Statistics should be used as a measure of success, not emotions or opinions. The ‘BDR,’ in my own experience as a Support Worker to some of these individuals is just a joke. It has never impaired a listed person from accessing alcohol but just increased my workload by having to ferry them to multiple destinations to find their alcohol and Gungja suppliers. Wake up Kat.
Sit back Kat and listen and learn whilst leaving your emotional leftist attitudes at home. Go and talk to Robyn Lambley,
There is no correlation between low liquor prices or availability hours, and alcohol abuse. This was the well-researched conclusion of the Liquor Commission when it was first established in 1978-79 by the extremely capable and experienced Ian Pitman.
Actually, alcohol abuse is typically the self-anesthetizing of people whose lives have become intolerable, and high prices most certainly add to life stress. The Greens in general, and McNamara in particular, are grossly unqualified to even comment on this issue. Academics, likewise.
Reduce prices as much as possible, punish the guilty instead of the long-suffering non-problematic normal drinkers, and bend the law to benefit Territorians rather than the cynical and irresponsible Liquor Industry. And end the ID farce that forces gentle imbibers to run the equivalent of a border crossing every time they want a drink.
McNamara added that the “alcohol industry needs to be locked out of the decision making table” Well that’s the Greens for you – they develop policy with little regard for the people involved in the industry. Bruce has spent years discussing issues with Hospitality business owners which is exactly what the Chief Minister needs.
They make profit from selling alcohol, they’re only ever going to want to sell more alcohol. Why would you ask them for advice on alcohol policies, it’s the most obvious conflict of interest you could have.
Menzies School of Alleged Health Research has an opinion? What exactly do they do out their at Menzies? Other Health Research organizations across Australia are frequently publishing excellent research on diabetes, medcial issues and real world outcomes.
Meanwhile, despite attracting a lot of funding due to their alleged indigenous health slant, bales of hay are blowing through the corridors at MSAHR!!
If the CLP are looking for any cost saving measures, cutting funding to Menzies must be considered!
I’m guessing all the people here whingeing about the floor price, also whinge about crime. The higher the alcohol consumption the higher the crime, its not rocket science. Alcohol is the most dangerous and addictive drug known to mankind, it has killed more humans than any other substance known to man, except maybe tobacco. The less alcohol in society the better off things are.
Most of us can drink alcohol responsibly without issue.
Why should we punish the law abiding masses just for the personal failings of a minority of people?
Besides, weren’t bottles of grog selling for hundreds of dollars each out remote on the black market?

Is it really that difficult for you to pull your license out of your wallet to buy booze?
Oh the tyranny!
