What pathetic weak leadership by CM Finnochiaro which is why nothing will change in Alice Springs. Why the media call Steven’s a respected elder is sickening as his female partner cowers black & blue in a corner. This thug blames alcohol, says it was an accident & fails to take responsibility. Finnochiaro wasted time listening to Steven’s who lives off the test of tax-payer funds. NTG needs strong leadership for change. Who can offer this in the CLP?
Oh come on!
It’s not a favourable photo opportunity is it?
Dancing, cake baking and “ we have a plan” are this useless Chief Ministers strengths!!
The question is “ Dies Lia condone a bit of rough?
Andrew Kirkman conducted his role disgracefully as the CEO of DIPL threatening a female staffer and apparently was found to be less than honest in court-certainly not the traits of a public officer but then again it’s the NT. The corruption and BS capital of Australia!
So a bit of wife abuse come on, in our homes it’s a disgrace but you never know, maybe the CCTV amuses Lia!
This CLP is a disgrace and my hat is off to those 10000 that morally couldn’t vote.
She cant get rid of fabulous CEO material Kirkman, he is on the same boards as ol mate Sam Burke, Lia’s hubby!
If you look at all the roles, its all mates and daughters of former CLP MLAS, who can not do anything!
As a CLP voter, I am voting for Luke Gosling! I am sick of “Offspring of former MLAs” getting picked over real people who are clean skins. Eff the Nepotism!
The Aboriginal organisations need to be dealing with these problems. I hope that some useful plans come out of these meetings and they don’t revolve around throwing money out there for no returns. The response failing to take responsibility doesn’t work. Until the alcoholism is addressed there will be no resolution. All of the Labor restrictions failed. Time to do something new.
And there it is..again. Until / if they are serious about actually making a positive difference then grog must be banned completely for any that abuse the privilege.. 1 strike and lifetime ban. Nothing will change until grog is taken out of the equation.
Wait Wait!!! Where are all the “NO MORE” NGO campaigners we see every December on this?
You know, the same ashen faces, looking at the camera sternly, hands out for more funding, parading in a airconditioned march, whilst their cars are being broken into in the Casuarina Square car park?
Given the NO MORE campaign is a bunch of NGO’s with their hands out for funding whilst delivering poor services, its not a good look for Non Service Delivering NGO to criticize another Non Service Delivering NGO!
The Service Providers, who are funded by the Federal Government, and the NT Government (after the Federal Government transfers the money to the NT Government), are part of the problem!
If you want Indigenous people to be leaders of organizations, you have to lower the set standards!
Proof: Look what total devastation the Ochre Card (WWC Notice) requirement did to Health Department Indigenous recruitment!! They wanted to hire indigenous people but due to violent /criminal histories, they do not meet the bill.
Correction:Proof: Look what total devastation the Ochre Card (WWC Notice) requirement did to Health Department Indigenous recruitment!! They wanted to hire indigenous people but due to violent /criminal histories, “many applicants” did not meet the bill.
I am disappointed that this leader may be excused for his behaviour because he is an Aboriginal man. DV cannot be excused for some but not for others. If this story is an accurate account of what happened, then allow me to register my disappointment at this inadequate response by the government.
Please, we have had enough of this “alcohol made me do it” BS. Alcohol doesn’t make you do anything. It removes some inhibitions so if you are a violent person underneath, you can exhibit violence.
No one is above the law or deserves to be dealt with leniently just because they hold positions of influence in the community.
As Chair of Lhere Artepe and Director of Tangentyere Council, Benedict Stevens must demonstrate restraint in facing adversity and the courage to stand by his position as a ‘leader’ within his community. His positions make him accountable as a role model.
Ultimately, it was his behaviour (assaulting his partner) that was not becoming someone in those capacities as a decision-maker and community leader. Blaming grog is a lame excuse; not a reason.
How are Lhere Artepe Corporation and Tangentyere Council being held accountable for their business and financial management practices?
How are Lhere Artepe Corporation and Tangentyere Council being held accountable for their business and financial management practices Phil? They aren’t.
The Shaw dynasty is alive and well at Tang, with the leadership never doing media interviews, while relevant federal minister is on the record as saying she is happy with how it’s being run. The last annual report published on their website is for 2017-18. Maybe being ORIC- overseen means they don’t legally need to publish one anymore but the extent to which Tang is publically funded means they have a moral obligation to in my view.
As for Stevens, the least he could do is follow the example of High Woodbury earlier this year. The parallels are uncanny.
No one was happier than me when the CLP gained power at the recent elections, I was one who , ( as it seems now), foolishly believed that The new Chief Minister would rapidly act on her promises including the issue of Domestic Violence throughout the territory, but particularly among our Indigenous population who are the greatest sufferers in relation to this horrific area of violence.
She was so vocal when she attacked the Labor government for not taking “strong action” to remove NT Treaty commissioner Mick Dodson after allegations surfaced that he threatened to bash an Aboriginal woman at a football match, yet now we are seeing nothing and hearing absolute silence, that we are left with the only reasonable conclusion that those statements where simply political rhetoric to secure office but with no will to act on promises given.
As A CLP supporter, I find that to be a very sad and disappointing profile of someone I truly believed would follow through on election promises.
