Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro appeared on Thursday to walk back from her $3 million election pledge to give long-serving NT Police officers a bonus to keep experienced cops on the beat, after being questioned about it in Parliament, but later said she was still “committed” to a bonus although it is unclear how it will work, how much it will cost and how much police officers will receive.
The NT Independent understands negotiations between the government, the union and the police executive have reached an impasse over the bonus, with the union calling the delays “unacceptable”.
Oh the painfull transition from Opposition where you can say whatever you want to being a Government responsible for a budget and paying the troops, all 28000 of them , every 2nd Thursday!
