Charles Darwin University offering free tax advice to low income earners

Charles Darwin University accounting students will be running tax clinics to help other students and low-income earners in completing their returns and identifying tax deductions.

CDU accounting lecturer and clinic organiser Raul David said the tax clinics, which are in their fifth year, would be staffed by CDU students under the supervision of academic staff and experienced practitioners.

“Sometimes it could be difficult for people to do their returns, let alone do their homework on deductions. This should be very popular with low-income students who need help because they are working and studying, so don’t have time to think about tax,” he said.

“The clinics also serve as an opportunity for accounting students to put theory into actual practice.”

Mr David said the rising cost of living has forced low-income earners to look at ways how to save time and money.

He said people with an annual income of less than $60,000, and who have no tax representation are eligible to be clients of the free clinic.

Clinics will be run from the Waterfront Campus in Darwin until October 30. Clinics will also be held at the Katherine Central Shopping Complex on July 31 and August 1. And in Alice Springs at the Yeperenye Shopping Centre on August 14 and 15.

You can register for a clinic at the CDU website.

  1. Are you kidding me?
You have to see to believe how DUMBED down the CDU Courses are so they can push through the international students!

You have people struggling to speak English in their 2nd year Uni degree! How can that possibly happen?

I wouldn’t dream of asking a international student what time of the day it was!
Compare what advice you get to real accounting advice from a real accountant who went to a real university!

Just a small note regarding getting financial advice from CDU Academics and former students:
CDU is in the red to the tune of $15 million and the Academic Leadership where shocked when they where told! Like, it popped out of the blue and bit them on the rear! You may as well ask a homeless person for financial advice!
