A Charles Darwin University staffer who publicly criticised the CLP Government in an op-ed for acting like “dictators” who engage in “shady” politics, has been rebuked by vice-chancellor Scott Bowman from China in his own opinion piece, in which he wrote that he was impressed by everything the CLP is doing, including a proposal to give an unelected bureaucrat the ability to override environmental regulations.
Mr Bowman is currently in China on a trip paid for by a Chinese university group to recruit international PhD students, that he suggested were “outside of the federal government cap on international students”. He also downplayed mass staff cuts at the university on a radio interview on Wednesday, despite admitting the university was “financially stressed”.
If I were Mr Giakoumatos, I’d be asking myself (as the policy and governance officer) whether the VC followed CDU’s media policies before publishing, “Sweeping to government with 17 seats, the Country Liberal Party has earned the right to be decisive”.
Then again, if CDU’s policies aren’t worth the paper they’re written on, a policy and governance officer might be tempted to keep their mouth shut throughout 8 years of unconsultative government
It has been suggested by some that CDU degrees and a number of their lecturing staff are useless. If that is the case, who ‘listens’ to anything this bloke says and does!
