A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly throwing an unknown object at a truck on the Katherine River Bridge on Thursday, NT Police said.
Superintendent Warren Scott said that about 11:45am last Thursday police received reports that a truck had been struck by an object while driving over the Katherine River Bridge.
“It is alleged the boy threw an unknown object at the truck before fleeing the scene, causing minor damage,” Supt Scott said.
“Further investigations also revealed he had been involved in the theft of a push bike from a shopping centre on Katherine Terrace shortly afterward.
“Throwing projectiles at moving vehicles is extremely dangerous and could end in serious injury or potentially death.
“Police take community safety very seriously and we continue to work with partnering agencies like the Department of Children and Families and Kalano Community Association.”
Supt Scott said members from Strike Force Cerberus arrested the boy on Tuesday. He remains in police custody, with charges expected to follow.
Police are asking anyone with information to phone them on 131 444, (quote reference NTP2500092725), or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website.

We all live in dangerous global times. Even so, here in our loved N.T. It is, or is it not, current demographics. Or “Climate Threat”. Or . . . families failing to discuss, explain, value, or support one another? What motivation triggered a sixteen year old adolescent, on a bridge, to have to hand a yonnee of some weight. And to hurl it at a passing truck? Too many families have ceased to show an interest , . . prioritize, what being a family means? Govt(s) don’t unify families.
