The Department of Business says it is looking for “an appropriate course of action” to deal with the Darwin Basketball Association’s ongoing governance and financial failures, while the association incorrectly told members that media were forbidden under its constitution to attend its recent annual general meeting, where it produced financial statements showing its auditors once again raising questions over the group’s solvency.
The association was first due to hold its AGM on May 28, but postponed it five days out until June 30 and then again until July 21. The AGM was further delayed and was supposed to be held on October 2, but it was again pushed it back until October 16, because it had not provided the financial statements to members far enough in advance of the meeting. It was finally held on October 19.
This is tax-payer money being mismanaged. A full enquiry into NT News and NTG Dept of Business collusion needs to be established as there are serious conflicts of interests involved.

Why are Tax Payers Money Going to a secretive organisation that cannot be questioned or scrutinized? Who do they think they are, the NT Government!??
Is there anyone in the cabinet, legislative assembly or public service who possesses leadership qualities, ethics and a commitment to accountable government who could investigate these serious matters and then tell the full truth to Territorians. Has any prima facie fraud been committed by any of the relevant basketball entities or their employees and if so referred to police? Have any of them been trading insolvent and if so referred to ASIC? Are / were there any conflicts of interest between the boards and management committees of the relevant basketball entities? If so what are they and have they been referred to ASIC? We’re any NTG grants made to entities trading insolvent. If so what was the value of each grant, who recommended each one and who approved it? This was, of course another Labor fuckup. But the CLP should not run away from exposing the truth. If everyone involved has a clean bill of health they’ll be vindicated by the investigation and the public interest will be served.
