The Barkly Highway will be closed for up to three days starting at noon on Saturday, the government has warned, as bushfire crews attempt to bring the Barkly fire under control that has been burning for nearly seven weeks.

The highway will be closed from the Barkly Homestead to Avon Downs in a “concerted effort” with the combined resources of surrounding stations to get the raging fire under control which is now half the size of Tasmania, Bushfires NT said in a statement.
