Why is there no attempt or strategies to deal withe the causes of these problems? Surely such an approach can only lead to further escalation? What is so difficult about attempting to address major disadvantage in key areas such as education and employment? How can you possibly govern a jurisdiction based on incarcerating a substantial proportion of citizens? How can this encourage a sense of equality and justice – essential requirements for a responsible, legitimate government – free if racial bias?
Don your well aware that Indiginous Funding destined for some programme in Manyalaluk is turned into employed Public Servants in a Vote Rich seat like Malak, far away from the disadvantage!
Yeah, pesky NAAJA and equally pesky everyone else, complaining about children’s and adults’ human rights. Shame on you!
The Comforting Lovely Party love love love locking up 10 year olds and we’re especially pleased to see an 11 year old girl kept overnight in Palmerston watch house together with all those friendly adults. We were so pleased we made sure all the lights stayed on 24/7 so she couldn’t sleep.
Why don’t you all just look the other way, like the Government do.
Even the NT Police Association says officers are afraid for their personal safety.
…
“The CLP Government will not be distracted by political grandstanding.”
She said, in the middle of her own political grandstanding. Clown.
…
Ms Boothby then admitted that the courts were “clogged”, that jail facilities were “overcrowded”, that “communities [are] left behind” and that “spiralling crime” was continuing, but blamed it all on the previous Labor government.
Typo: should read: ‘Professor Boofby…..blamed it all on the previous Labor Government.’
We wondered where he got it from, now we know.
Maybe they’re like those Russian dolls.
You get a big wooden one (Ms Boothby), “thick as 2 planks” my grandfather used to say and when you open it up, inside is a smaller, identical wooden one (Professor Boofby).
Maybe these so called elders we keep thanking got of their ass, and gripped their communities. Behave and you don’t go to the watch house.
@ Don Fuller:
Why? We’ll tell you why Don.
First off, the people creating and delivering the policies have little to no idea what they’re doing.
You have a mechanic who later studied law in charge of the euphemistically named ‘Corrections’. There is nothing correct about it of course.
You have a digital marketing adviser as the Attorney General, enough said.
You have a hairdresser in charge of Education. We agree with Cardfightback blog who used to call it ‘unEducation’.
Is it any surprise, really?
…
We’ve been saying this for months, actually years offline, what you just said (again also).
The Crappy Little Party people’s arrogance is breathtaking at times.
This prevents them from
a) ever admitting they might get something wrong,
b) asking relevant experts in their field for advice and assistance,
c) doing something to change course.
They’re becoming more and more like Donald Chump’s so-called Republican Party by the day.
…
Secondly, they don’t have to care because they’ve got another 3 years to suck the system dry, get themselves in the media, accept corporate gifts while lording it up at the Darwin Cup and other inane places full of people desperate to get their photo in the NT News, help their mates get richer and do all they can to destabilise the community because chaos creates dollar opportunities, and no relevant or truly oppositional Labor Party.
To the contrary, the current ‘Opposition’ are just a red version of CLP-lite most of the time.
…
Thirdly, actually doing the work around investigating causes of crime (a ten second internet search) and then working to try to address some of them would be way too much hard work for these imposters.
It’s much easier to keep doing what you’re doing (very little in the way of actually making things better), taking your salary and benefits and extra gifts from as many people as possible, ignoring all the systemic and personnel problems (ICAC, DWC, DPP, NTP etc), salary sacrificing to bump up that Super Duper Super balance then riding it out to the next election when you’ll bow out of politics and try and get yourself a well paid consultancy or Board membership job or 10 from all the people you helped to rort the system during your 4 years of doing f**k all to help the greater community.
This is what we have allowed NT politics to become.
We did this. We gave our permission for this to happen.
Only we can fix it.
These current muppets on both sides have no chance.
They are but mere symptoms of a corrupt, lazy and incompetent system of Government.
It has attracted them, like moths to a light, partly because they know they can get away with what they are doing right now.
Much like imprisoning 10 and 11 year old children is a symptom of a broken society…..a society that doesn’t ask any consequences for publicly lying, racist Police officers.
Or for secret financial payments to your husband, for example.
“Threatening to cut essential funding to remote policing is counterproductive, dangerous, and undermines community confidence.”
Did I not just read about them cancelling the police station in Peppimenarti?
” . . . .. because that’s what our NT Communities expect”. – Ms Boothby Attorney-General NT. Actually, what community expects; is not more and more ‘beds’. Rather, less and less offenders? And that objective rests completely within Governance. Why else would communal monies paid to a Political Party (and beneficiaries) ie Servants . . . to and for COMMUNAL needs?
No parents?
