Attempted murder charge following home invasion, assault of woman in remote community

Two men are facing charges, including one for attempted murder, after a woman suffered head injuries and another man was knocked unconscious in an alleged home invasion in an undisclosed remote community over the weekend, NT Police said.

Police said the two men, aged 23 and 29, allegedly broke into the woman’s home in East Arnhem around 2:20 am on Saturday morning and assaulted her. A neighbour tried to assist the woman but he was also assaulted and left unconscious.

It’s understood the men had weapons but police did not say what weapons were allegedly used.

The men had allegedly left the scene of the crime by the time police arrived but they were located and arrested following a search of the community.

The woman was taken to hospital, police said, but was later released.

The 23-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful entry, criminal damage and going armed in public.

The 29-year-old was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful entry, criminal damage, going armed in public.

The men were bailed and ordered to appear in court on February 9.
