UPDATED: NT Police have arrested 26-year-old Isacc Thompson, who escaped custody Sunday night and went on the run in shorts, socks and handcuffs after being transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital in an ambulance.

The escape occurred around 8:15pm Sunday night, while Thompson, who police said was an associate of the Mongols bikie gang, was being escorted from an ambulance to the emergency department at RDH.

Police did not say which organisation was escorting the inmate, but it was later revealed to be NT Corrections. He was last seen running down Rocklands Drive, but police did not say in which direction, before evading police for three days.

NT Police said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon that Thompson had been arrested “at a location in Darwin River without incident”

Police had warned the public not to approach Thompson.

“We’re asking members of the public not to approach him. If you see him, call Triple Zero immediately,” said Sgt Kenneth Bradshaw on Monday.

“Anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 000 and quote reference number P26191473.”

Police on Wednesday thanked the public for their assistance. Investigations into how Thompson escaped are continuing and police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 131 444.

The latest escape follows another Mongols member jumping the dock at Darwin Local Court last month and evading police for four days.

Tips from the public led to his recapture, while several people were charged with assisting him evade police.

Police said on Tuesday they believed Thompson was also being assisted by associates.

Three Mongols members have escaped custody in recent weeks and have all been apprehended.
