Environment Minister Joshua Burgoyne said he has not been provided a legal briefing that recommended prosecution of Empire Energy and has not asked to see it while his department has since decided the company did nothing wrong in relation to one of the alleged offences, but will not provide any details of what it is the company is alleged to have done.
The alleged offence was first revealed through a rejected Freedom of Information application in which Lock the Gate Alliance sought a copy of any brief given to the former environment minister Kate Worden recommending prosecutions, or potential prosecutions, of Empire Energy or subsidiary company Imperial Gas, under the Petroleum Act relating to activities at its EP187 gas exploration lease, otherwise known as the Carpentaria Pilot Project, which sits about 160km west of Borroloola.
