A 20-year-old man who is alleged to have stalked several women in Tennant Creek over the last few months and was carrying out a “relationship” with a child under the age of 16 has been arrested, NT Police said.

In a statement that provided few details, the NT Police said “investigations” had uncovered the man’s alleged actions and that he was charged some time on Thursday night, including for a number of child sex offences.

The man was charged with two counts of unlawful stalking, six counts of indecent dealings with a child under 16, one count of sexual relationship with a child, using a carriage service to procure a child, using a carriage service to groom a child and using a carriage service for sexual activity with a person under 16.

He was also charged with possessing a prohibited firearm and using a carriage service to menace and harass.

The 20-year-old remains on remand and is scheduled to appear in Tennant Creek Local Court on August 29.

“Child sex offences are some of the most despicable offences in our society,” said Detective Sergeant Hayley Duncan.

“NT Police will continue to investigate and prosecute anyone who commits these types of crimes.

“If you or anyone you know is aware of offences against children please report it to Police on 131 444 or in an emergency call 000. You can also report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
