An Alice Springs police officer is facing charges, including “aggravated assault”, in connection to “an incident that involved a female member of the public”, the NT Police said in a statement Monday night.
The officer was reportedly off-duty at the time of the alleged incident. No details were provided by NT police media manager Rob Cross.
The 35-year-old has also been charged with unlawful disclosure of official information and has been bailed to appear in Alice Springs local court on May 12.
“The officer has been suspended from duty and the matter is under investigation by the Professional Standards Command,” the police statement said.
“As the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.”
Mr Cross did not respond to the NT Independent’s questions about the nature of the “aggravated assault” charge.
