A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with allegedly raping an Alice Springs woman last weekend, NT Police said in a statement.
The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred in the “early hours of the morning” last Sunday at the man’s house and allegedly involved drugs.
Police said in a brief statement released late this afternoon that the 24-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted an 18-year-old female at his residence.
Police said they were known to each other, but gave no further details.
The man was arrested the next day, the statement said.
He has been charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent and one count of supplying a schedule one drug, less than commercial quantity.
He is scheduled to appear before the Alice Springs local court on May 13.
Police had faced criticism for not reporting sexual assaults in a timely manner recently. This is the second report this week involving alleged sexual assaults released by the NT Police media unit.
