Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce has announced he will be Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro’s new chief of staff.
Mr Bruce made the announcement on his Linkedin page, saying that after nearly seven years as the Hospitality NT chief executive officer he had tendered his resignation to the board.
“After a family holiday looking at fossils in Queensland, I will return to Darwin to take up an exciting new opportunity working for the new Chief Minister Hon Lia Finocchiaro MLA as her Chief of Staff as she and her team reduce crime, rebuild the economy and restore our great Territory lifestyle,” Mr Bruce said in a post.
“Teresa M Hart PSM and the team have worked tirelessly during the lead up to the election, and during the transition to government, and her example of hard work and integrity are not lost on me. Wishing Terri all the very best in her next chapter of semi-retirement.”
Ms Finocchairo’s office did not respond to a request for a statement about Mr Bruce’s appointment, and Mr Bruce did not return a phone call.
Mr Bruce’s Linkedin page shows he has previously worked for politicians.
He lists being a senior ministerial advisor to Alice Springs MLA and former CLP minister Robyn Lambley from November 2012 to 2014. Ms Lambley served as the Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer in the Mills ministry between August 2012 and March 2013. She was also Minister for Health.
Mr Bruce began his political career as a Research Assistant for former NSW Nationals MP Trevor Khan in 2008.
He was then a Policy Advisor in the Office of NSW Nationals Leader Andrew Stoneham from 2009 to 2011, and Policy Director for Mr Stoneham when he became the NSW Deputy Premier in 2011.
After working for Ms Lambley, Mr Bruce was Chief of Staff for NSW National Troy Grant, who was the Hospitality, Gaming and Racing Minister and Deputy Premier.
In July this year, as boss of Hospitality NT, Mr Bruce argued that emergency powers allowing police to suspend venues’ liquor licences should be changed.
Terri Hart became Ms Finocchiaro’s Chief of Staff five months before the August election and remained in the role until Mr Bruce’s appointment.

Odds are he’ll continue to find himself dealing with fossils upon his return…
WOW!!
This is the only call The Current Chief Minister got right!
In contrast:
Minister Boothby has no law degree and is the Attorney-General of the NT!
There are 3 other MLA’s who do have Law Degrees!
Minister Boothby has a Diploma in Financial Services (Financial Planning) which will serve Territorians in good stead as she tackles youth crime, horrendous incarceration rates and complex legislative reform by advising her clients on minimizing their tax!
Robyn Cahill with extensive Health/Medical/Hospital management is not in charge of Health, which comprises of 1/4 of the footprint of the NTG
and is the most complex undertaking of all Service Delivery!
Who is in charge of Health?
That would be Minister Edgington with a Law Degree! How is that minister with the Medical Terminology? I wonder if he understands them Doctors when they are talking?
Wheres Minister Cahill? With her Health and Hospital management experience she will serve as Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations; International Education,
Migration and Population; Workforce Development; Advanced Manufacturing; Children and Families; Child Protection; Prevention of Domestic Violence
Who is the MLA in Charge of Treasury, the stewardship of the Economy as GST revenue is about to plummet, and the management of the bankrupting $12 billion in Labor Government debt?
Thats Minister Bill Yan with no education at all who spent an entire career devoid of any qualification!
That means the Minister will need to be taught basic and advanced economics from scratch, before comprehending any of his own decisions!
Treasury has to manage a economy which will experience less GST handouts from the Federal Government whilst implementing the CLP’s election promises!
Wait, you know who has a Economics degree, a Law Degree and Executive level experience and a PHD in Demographics from the worlds most recognized Education institution?
Well that former ECO2 Executive Director Human Capital of NTG’s Investment Territory Tanzil Rahman, the backbencher with no portfolio.
Whos the Minister of 1/4 of the Government managing the Department of Education?
That would be the Learned Minister Jo Hersey with a Certificate 3 in Hair Dressing!
Yes that Cert 3 in curls will be used in good stead in addressing the worst NAPLAN results, the worst teacher attrition rates and the worst attendance rates
in the country! But I bet them kids will be looking stylish!
Who is the Minister for People, Sport and Culture; Veterans; Disability; Arts; Youth, Seniors and Equality; Multicultural Affairs
Well that would be Jinson Charls, the Minister with 10 years experience in the medical field with a Bachelor of Health and Human Services and a
Master of Mental Health Nursing and a MBA to boot!
And what about Joshua Burgoyne, Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment; Corporate and Digital Development; Water Resources!
No linked in profile? WOW Minister, no Linkedin?
I cant find any other Minister without a Linked in profile.
Could this be about command and control by the The Current Chief Minister??
