The only public transport system in Tennant Creek, which includes a wheelchair service in a town with no taxis, is closing down within the week, the not-for-profit organisation running it has announced.
Tennant Creek Transport management committee chairperson Georgina Bracken said in an email that she was regretfully announcing the passenger transport service would cease on June 30, after it had begun following demand by residents in 2012.
“overwhelming compliance and reporting demands,”. And organisations wonder why volunteers are not around. It is no fun working to raise money when insurance, reporting requirements, traffic management, health rules and regulations plus a few others take a large chunk of raised funds.
I sincerely hope that Elliot McAdam is in a position to re-contest his role on the BRC either as a Councillor or Mayor.
He is a wonderful asset to the broader Barkly community and would help to grow the town of Tennant Creek forward.
Sharon Lake would also be a welcome addition.
