The Fyles Government has released the findings of its secret review into the ICAC Act with proposed changes to how the anti-corruption watchdog operates, including a direction that the commissioner “conduct examinations and public inquiries in a non-adversarial manner” and not investigate certain misconduct allegations.
The proposed amendments would also prevent the ICAC from publicly naming those found to have engaged in certain misconduct, as well as dictating the commissioner’s priorities by forbidding the investigation of lesser offences of misconduct or unsatisfactory conduct, unless under certain conditions, as well as other changes.
