The Finocchiaro Government’s “devastating” decision to close the YiSSA short-stay accommodation facility in Darwin within 90 days will leave almost 400 vulnerable Territorians without accommodation, the organisation running the facility says, while Children and Families Minister Robyn Cahill said the government could not justify the cost of renewing the lease and promised no one would be left without a bed, but is yet to develop a plan for housing people.
The government did not publicly announce the closure, instead, it was revealed by Opposition Leader Selena Uibo, who said on Tuesday that 25 Yilli Housing staff would lose their jobs, while Mission Australia staff and long-term tenants at the site were also expected to be affected.
Did Labor pay over market prices when they set the deal up? A bit cheeky to squeal when the CLP tries to get value for money.
Up to the Land Councils, surely
one in Darwin’s CBD? Thats going to be the old YWCA on Mitchell St, a stones throw away from Port Darwin Mlas office.
Under no circumstances will people be left without a bed, but also, we have no plans or even concepts of a plan to find 400 of them. Nek minnit…it’s appalling how many people are sleeping rough? Couldn’t see that coming.
Only sleeping rough in your opinion. they are following tradition
May I suggest the NT Government experiment with Chinese Made Modular Dongas?
(These are not the Dongas of decades ago, these things are superb, sound proofed and come with bells and whistles!)! Under $20k a pop.
AUSCO would seriously reconsider their pricing of their own Chinese Made Dongas they are flogging to NTG ,,methinks
