A large brawl on the Tiwi Islands that saw up to 100 people armed with weapons ended Wednesday night with “a number of individuals” being treated for minor injuries at the local clinic, NT Police said.
Police were called to the disturbance at an unnamed community around 9pm, where they encountered the large group apparently fighting and armed with “a variety of edged weapons”.
Police were able to disperse the crowd and an unspecified number of people were treated for injuries at a local clinic.
Police said children had witnessed the melee.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable,” said Commander Kylie Anderson in a statement.
“The incident resulted in a number of people requiring medical treatment and was witnessed by children in the area.
“Alcohol fuelled violence will not be tolerated and police will continue to hold offenders to account. The community as a whole needs to stand up and say enough is enough.”
