Economy and Business

LNG exports may be sidetracked to prevent winter gas shortage

Australia’s east coast liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporters may need to divert excess gas supply for domestic customers to stave off any potential supply shortages this winter in the country’s south, Business World online has reported. The Australian Energy Market Operator said despite increased production commitments from the industry since last year, the supply in southern Australia is declining rapidly, raising risks of near-term shortages and long-term supply gaps. Though Australia produces more gas than it needs to meet its domestic demands, most supply is contracted for export.

Australia’s First-Ever Angelika Film Centre to open in Brisbane

Angelika Film Centre’s opening in Brisbane mid this year marks the first Aussie site—and the first outside of the US—for the brand. The brand started in Soho in New York City in September 1989 and has grown to nine American locations since. Filmgoers can look forward to an eight-screen, 400-seat cinema complex, which will span 2,500 square metres. The centre will also feature an elevated alfresco bar area, as inspired by the chain’s OG Big Apple site, with views over the precinct, Concrete Playground has reported.
