A 31-year-old East Arnhem man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a child “known to him” at a residence in an unnamed community late last month, NT Police said.

The man was charged on Tuesday afternoon with indecent dealing with a child under 10 years of age, after investigations by the Child Abuse Taskforce. Police said the child was “known to him”.

Sex crimes detectives attended the unnamed community to make the arrest, police said.

They had previously reported that the incident occurred around 1:15pm on Sunday, October 24, at a residential property.

The man was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

“In the interests of protecting the privacy of the victim and family, no further details will be provided,” police said in a statement.
